Due to the pandemic, we have changed our service models, in order to provide for the safety of our taxpayers and volunteers. The following virtual tax preparations models will be available:
No Contact Model: There is no in-person contact between taxpayer and Tax-Aide volunteers. All tax preparations are handled virtually using technology. To utilize the service, you must: have an email address; be able to scan all of your tax documents into email; have a computer or smart device capable of video conferencing with a remote Tax-Aide counselor; and have a printer.
Traditional Scan Model: At the initial appointment, a Tax-Aide counselor will conduct an in-person 15-20 minute interview with you, before scanning your tax documents. The volunteer will return your documents to you and set up another appointment time no more than one week later. Your tax return will be prepared and you should expect at least one call from the counselor to review the results of the preparation. If you are married and file your return jointly, both spouses must attend this second appointment to review and sign your return. After that we will e-file your return on your behalf.
Same Day Express: This is similar to the Traditional Scan Model except your return is completed while you wait on-site in your car. You must have a cell phone to answer counselor questions during preparation and quality review. You will re-enter the tax sites when notified for a final review and signature. If you are married and file your return jointly, both spouses must attend this appointment to review and sign your return. Tax preparation time will be 1 to 1 1/ 2 hours. If you have a return with a schedule C or wish to itemize, you should sign up for either Traditional Scan or No Contact Models.
Please visit the Book an Appointment page to schedule your appointment for TY20.
